The Dinner will present Indonesian batik fashion shows by a renowned Indonesian
batik House, Alleira, and a famous American Textile Designer based in New York, Mary
Jaeger, alongside various Indonesian traditional dances, music, performances, and
Indonesian food. Special performance by the Indonesian Diaspora artist from Holland,
Daniel Sahuleka, will also be enlivened this Gala.
At the Gala Dinner, the committee will announced three winners of the design
competition. Each winner receives a ticket and has the opportunity to travel to cities in
Indonesia on a two‐week batik tour, exhibitions in Indonesia and in the U.S., and in
addition, each winner will receive a cash prize of $7,000.
In addition to the awarding ceremony of the American Batik Design Competition,
the Embassy of Indonesia, this Gala Dinner serves as a kick of event for the Opening of
Indonesian Celebration Week starting on 31 October – 4 November 2013. Indonesia
Celebration Week presenting Indonesian Gamelan Orchestra various institution and the
regions in the US as well as from Indonesia. Series of talks and seminars will also available
to discuss Indonesian Gamelan and Puppets. In addition, various Indonesian creative and
performing arts such as music, dances, theater, batik and film will make the program so
colorful in highlighting Indonesian cultural diversities.
The Gala Dinner will be attended by around 500 people, including dignitaries such
as U.S. Congressmen/women, high ranking Government officials, Ambassadors from ASEAN and neighboring countries, diplomatic corps, artists, finalists and judges of the American Batik Design Competition II, CEOs and representatives of various U.S. companies.
